I didn't start to prepare for the solar eclipse until yesterday evening and then I woke up this morning (Sunday) and put a really awesome Solar Eclipse Journaling printable together. I decided that I better get myself in gear because this may be a once in a lifetime event and I want to capture the memories of viewing the solar eclipse with my son. If you are one of the lucky people who actually bought a safe pair of solar eclipse glasses before today, then I found a cool idea to make viewing the sun a little safer for your child. Cut a hole in a thick paper plate and tape the glasses on the inside leaving no spaces around the viewer. This will help ensure that the child doesn't accidentally peek and damage their eyes.

Pin-Hole Projection: Cereal Box Viewer
If you don't have safe solar eclipse glasses or you would like a couple other fun ways to view the solar eclipse, then try these two techniques. You can create a cereal box viewer (pin-hole projection) or use a pizza pie pan (full of holes) to view the solar eclipse by projecting the light onto a surface. You are not looking at the sun. These are actually safer ways to view the solar eclipse for small children.

When the solar eclipse happens, all these light dots that are shinning through the pizza pan holes, will become little eclipse shapes. How cool is that!
