I thought the best place to start in writing our love story was at the VERY beginning. The very beginning was about 4 years before David and I even met. David and I got married when we were both 32 years old. It was the first marriage for both of us, so we had waited a LONG time for each other. 🙂
It all started when I was a mission nurse in Sudan. Yep! Sudan. That is another story that needs to be told about faith. It is one of the most pivotal faith building stories of my life! One day I will tell you about living in a Safari tent in the jungles of Sudan. I can tell you stories about Divine appointments that saved many a life, stepping on a snake, the BEST mangos falling from the trees, and long dusty Land Cruiser drives over broken bridges and through giant mud puddles.
While in Sudan, depending on God was an epic experience. It felt like He was right beside me guiding me in every decision I made. Which, at times was critical. I was a bush nurse in Sudan and I had never had any experience with bush nursing before. So when I didn't know what to do... I'd ask God and He always gave me an answer. He would tell me one step to take and then wait for me to ask Him for the next step. God walked me patiently through many a tough situation.
So how did all this "Sticky Love" start? It started with a list. For those who know me well... you know that I am a goal oriented person and I LOVE to make lists. I make lists for New Years resolutions, for cleaning, to do lists, study lists, packing lists, calendar lists, and more. So while in Sudan and feeling lonely for a companion, I wrote my list of "husband expectations." I decided to make it a prayer to God. I gave the list to Him so He could start working on the match making process! 🙂 LOL! And guess what? He did! Here is my list...
- Physically attractive
- Love language is touch
- Finds me funny
- "Dare to be a Daniel"
- A gentleman
- Not a workaholic
- Live simple to simply live for others
- Would never cause me to doubt his affections for me
- Helps when not asked - does the dishes and willing to cook
- Likes my family - respects my Dad
- Loves adventure and travel
- Picks up after himself
- Manages his finances well
- Directs conversations towards spiritual things
- Listens
- Buys red roses
- Has his own personal devotions with God
- Desires to live in the country
- Gives compliments and affirmations
- Romantic
- A solid foundation in the Word of God
My husband fits this list perfectly! And I married him because he is the kindest man I know. Good-night! I need to go snuggle my "King Honey Bee." 🙂

Wow. So much love for this post. I love the dress (very “Ever After”) but your list really speaks to me. I made such a list but with widely different, and dare I say some superficial criteria, years ago — and it came to fruition, but I didn’t think about what those personality aspects would REALLY result in… I think it’s time to consider a new list.
And I can’t wait to read more about the Sudan.
